You spend hours writing great content. You post on topics that are of interest to readers in your niche. Your images are high quality and you’ve created multiple pins to promote the post, but still…
No one is reading your blog.
You can’t figure out what you’re doing wrong. The question of why no one is visiting your blog is constantly on your mind. You stay awake all night trying to figure it out, but still…
No one is reading your blog.
I’ve been there so I know exactly how you feel.
I have a confession to make. When I started my blog, Focus. Implement. Triumph!, I lost money after my first month. I began experiencing sleepless nights trying to figure out how to earn money, rather than lose it in my blogging business. I eventually figured out a system that works for me and I shared the key components of that system with you in last weeks post, ‘How to Save Money on 5 Essentials that Every Profitable Blog Needs.’
During those long, sleepless nights I figured out the one key piece of the puzzle that was missing…
No one was reading my blog!
During this experience I realized that more important than gaining likes on Instagram, I had to focus on one key aspect of my business if I wanted it to be successful and that was on gaining more traffic to my blog.
Gaining traffic to your blog is soooo important. Why? Because More Traffic = More Subscribers. More Subscribers = More Money.
Today’s post provides 3 action steps that if implemented will enable you double your blog traffic.
I strongly believe in the principle that FOCUS means Follow One Course Until Successful. Developing a SMART goal enables you to maximize your results by remaining focused for the entire month on this key element of your blogging business. As you develop your goal, you want to give it the SMART Test. In other words, review it to ensure that it is Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Timed (SMART).
An example of a Blog Traffic SMART Goal would be ‘Reach 5000 Page Views During May.’ Give your goal the SMART Test by answering the following questions.
- 🗹 Is it Specific? Yes! I want my blog to have 5000 page views
- 🗹 Is it Measurable? Yes! 5000
- 🗹 Is it Achievable? Yes! It may require a lot of effort, but I can do it.
- 🗹 Is it Realistic? Yes! It is realistic to have 5000 page views in one month (or Yes! It is realistic to increase from 2500 to 5000 page views in one month).
- 🗹 Is it Timed? Yes! I have 1 month to reach this goal.
After you begin implementing the next two steps, it is important to consistently monitor your SMART goal throughout the month. One way of doing this is by breaking the goal down into average number of weekly page views that you need to reach it and then using your Google Analytics dashboard to monitor the data. (FYI… Google Analytics is a free WordPress plugin that allows you to monitor your blog traffic. If you don’t have it installed, please do so TODAY! Tracking your data is vital to your success.)
When I first got the idea to use Facebook to grow my blog traffic, I jumped right in, started a group for Black Bloggers Network, joined about 75 other groups and tried to do everything at the same time. I was trying to grow my blog traffic, gain more likes on my Facebook page, more followers on Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter, retweets and repins. It was waaaaayyyy too much and after a couple of weeks of spending hours a day on Facebook, I was totally exhausted. So I took a few steps back and hit the reset button.
If you are currently involved in Facebook groups, complete an audit of every group and delete those that do not offer anything that will help you reach your goal. I know… there are some groups that you just love being a part of the community. If you’re serious about growing your blog traffic, then you must be 100% committed to the process and only engage in high impact activities. You can’t spend time giving advice, recommending products, etc. You must be focused on spending every Facebook minute growing your blog traffic. Time is precious so use it wisely!
Facebook groups that allow you to share your blog posts, solicit blog post comments and increase social media engagement are those that you should stay in. The top 5 groups that have helped me to constantly increase my blog traffic every month are Blogging Babes & Business Bosses, Blogger Connection, BTR – Bloggers + Instagram Community, Social Media Network Group and of course, the Black Bloggers Network Facebook Group. I have created a FREE Checklist of 15 Facebook Groups that I recommend for increasing blog traffic. Every group included on this list provides DAILY ACTIVITIES that drive traffic to your website. Become engaged in these groups and I guarantee that your blog traffic will double in one month.
With the recent announcement that Pinterest has over 175 million monthly active users there has never been a better time to use Pinterest to grow your blog’s audience. With the ability to add your website url, affiliate links and even app information, the power of a pin is limitless. With my first blog, Focus. Implement. Triumph!, I was able to experience the power that Pinterest has in driving traffic to your website when I grew my following to over 2000 in less than 6 weeks. For a step-by-step overview of how to unleash the power of Pinterest, read ‘5 Steps to Phenomenal Pinterest Growth.’
When using Pinterest to grow your blog traffic, it is essential that you complete the following three steps:
- Install rich pins. Make sure that you link EVERY pin back to your website. Anytime someone looks at one of your pins, they should have the option to ‘Read More’ or ‘Visit Website.’
- Install share buttons above and/or below every blog post.
- Pin frequently. At least 30 times per day. Use Tailwind to automate your pins using the method that I described in ‘How to Save Money on 5 Essentials Your Blog Needs to Make a Profit.’
I’d love to hear from you. What are some of the strategies that you use to grow your blog traffic?
